Science Expo Great Hit!
by Admin User - Thursday, 11 March 2010, 03:52 PM

Science Expo

This year Amalgamated Academy hosted our first annual “Science Expo” in our new cafeteria. As opposed to a competition, as associated with science fairs, the expo’s intent was to showcase students’ work to both school and community with a focus on participation and celebration. There were no winners or losers at the end of the day, just presenters who were proud of their accomplishments and audiences including fellow students, parents, grandparents and friends who were in awe of the science knowledge and ingenuity displayed.

Included in the expo was a bridge testing session where student-made popsicle stick bridges were destroyed (tested) in the name of science. We were astonished to see how ecstatic students were to see their bridges explode in the testing device, the larger the carnage the higher the excitement. Some bridges outlasted the testing apparatus to a test mass of greater than 140 lbs, not bad for some popsicle sticks and white glue.
